NÆRE x Condé Nast: Florals for a Wellbeing Bar

In the first days of September, just before fashion month began to gather pace, NÆRE opened a wellbeing bar at Condé Nast's London offices. Editorial teams from Vogue, GQ, Tatler, Vanity Fair and Allure drifted in for an ice-cold Nectar 01 and a quiet moment before the season ahead.

NÆRE invited Barley to create the floral installation for the occasion, and we were delighted to be part of it.

Design Notes

Creatively, the aim was simple: make something that felt unmistakably NÆRE.

NÆRE are particular about what goes into their formula, and refreshingly open about it. Each ingredient is there for a reason, and nothing is added simply for appearance's sake.

The more we came to understand the brand, the more familiar its language felt. At Barley, every stem is considered before it finds its place: its shape, the way its line falls, which side it ought to show. We would rather let a flower be seen properly than lose it in volume. And we tend to work from the inside out, setting the structure first and leaving a little room around it to breathe.

Our starting point came from the thinking behind Nectar 01, which looks after the whole body from within.

We took that idea of something working quietly through the system and let it shape the piece, with a sense of flow and energy moving through it.

Grass was woven in loops around the base, so the eye follows it round as one continuous movement. Tall white stems rise up and out from within, lending the piece height and a certain lightness. At its centre, green dianthus brings softness and texture, and gently holds everything together.

The space itself played its part. Against pale walls and NÆRE's black and white packaging, we kept the palette to fresh greens and whites, so the piece would feel calm and alive without competing with the products around it.

Scale mattered too. As the piece would sit beside NÆRE's products and be photographed for their content, we built it with a little more presence than a typical table arrangement. Still pared back, but substantial enough to stand on its own.

On the day, it sat on the bar right beside the products and held its own in the room, even once the space had filled with guests.
